Recommendations received for my quest on computer monitor

In one of my previous posts, I'd asked for recommendations for a computer monitor. Here are some of the results.

I suggest to go for LG based on all my previous experiences. Of the 5 Samsung monitors, 4 showed lot of problems after two years.

LG 17" comes with 3yrs onsite warranty and their service is really good (atleast is in hyderabad, not sure how it is in Chennai). Last known competitive price for LG 17" monitor is 5.8K (about 4months back).

Regarding outlet I would recommend Supreme computers in the same street.

Samsung is really good and I have been using it for 2 years. Now many models have come in Samsung (17 inch)monitor. When I got it the rate was 8,600(Flat screen) and the normal screen rate was around 7500.Now the rates have fallen down. Now my friend got one for 6500 itself. U can buy at supreme computers in Ritchie Street.

Before buying it in supreme just check the price in "Challenger" just opposite to Supreme..

I'd suggest Samsung 17" monitor - cost effective, stable, good resolution and refresh rate, easy to configure. You can get it for Rs.5500 (or less) at Ritchie Street (Supreme Computers). There are other brands which might be of better quality (Sony, Phillips) or better price (Microtek), but Samsung gives the best of both worlds. LG is also a good alternative.

Of course you'd expect recommendations for shops in Ritchie Street only and I know of a particular shop where I usually buy computer hardware (Nirmaan Computers). I've had a good experience with him and shares some customer feedback about the products.

By the way, if you're going for 17" just to upgrade your screen size, just consider the fact that the viewable space (I mean actual size of the monitor excluding the frame that you see) would be diagonally 15.5 to 16" only. Try a 19" monitor that would make a fair deal for your eyes (Viewable is 18"). I recently bought a 19" (18") inch Samsung SyncMaster monitor from the above dealer for approx. Rs.13, 500/-. The only complaint that I have against this monitor is that the contrast of the picture is slightly lower compared to normal CRT monitors, but it is more than compensated by the concave shape of the screen and the minimal rear projection (occupies the space of a conventional 17" monitor).

I bought Samsung Syncmaster 750p in Supreme computers, Ritchie Street 4 years ago. It is still going great guns without an issue.
