Telecom regulator TRAI today asked public sector BSNL to release more bandwidth for boosting internet penetration, which stands at a dismally low 0.4 per cent in the country.
''BSNL is possessive about bandwidth and does not give it easily.
It is imperative for BSNL to part with it to speed up internet growth,'' TRAI Chairman Pradip Baijal said at the Third CEO Conclave, organised by Voice & Data here.
As per TRAI, India has 16 terabytes bandwidth capacity, of which only 0.180 is lit.
