(India) GSM user base rises to 35.94 million

Airtel, my mobile phone service provider, leads the country in number of customers. I will however not talk about the complaints that prepaid users seem to have with its service :)

Cellular operators offering GSM services added 1.14 million customers during November 2004, taking their total subscriber base to 35.94 million.

As per the data released by Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), which represents nine GSM (global system for mobile) service providers, Airtel has the maximum share of the market at 26.20 per cent, with 9.41 million users.

This is followed by public sector BSNL, which has 8.15 million users, accounting for 22.68 per cent of the market.
